The first time I drove my Jeep, I couldn’t figure out why I was getting some many friendly stares and waves. After a time, I realized that as a Jeep owner, I was part of something bigger than just owning a jeep. There was a camaraderie among Jeep owners that was inspiring! I began waving back to other Jeeps and soon it became a challenge to make sure that I was always waving. Of course, this was all in good fun. No one ever told me I “had” to wave.
Now, this wave is not a shake all your fingers like a polaroid-picture-type wave. This is usually a two to four finger salute to other Jeep owners (or drivers). Extending you hand with all five fingers extended is seen as the “classic wave”. If this is done while still holding the steering wheel, it’s been named the “Whoa Nelly” or “Ageless Howdy”. The most popular wave I have noticed as I drive around, is the “deuces” or a two-fingered wave, usually accomplished by the hand holding the steering wheel. This is my person favor style of wave.
