And as you fall to the ground your comrades wonder why.
You don't dare to breath or move a muscle and everyone thinks you dead.
Images spin around you of things you've done and said.
Your past and present collide together showing you your fate.
Never did you think you'd die at such an early date.
You don't see the medic kneeling by your side,
instead you see the bullet that's quickly passing by.
You can't move as the world fades to gray.
You pass into darkness with nothing left to say.
You hear the medic tell you "hold on, don't go"
but as the darkness takes you, you easily say "no".
It's after the death of a fallen soldier that everyone will see,
he died from the bullet no one saw except he.
Tears are spilled over his lifeless body as bullets fly all around, uncaring of his death.
After all is said and done, he is sent home with a letter claiming he did his best.
So, what's the price of war, a couple hundred dead?
No one said it was easy with these images in your head.
However, it is important to recognize the bravery of these men and women, especially the fallen. This goes out to any survivors of wars, missions, or assignments that still haunt them today. May you find peace in your own time and allow the memories of your present to fill you!
