I really enjoy taking my readers to unexpected places. When I am writing, I find myself being led by the story and many times I too am led to these unexpected places. It’s funny to me how I will begin with certain over arching story direction and without fail, the story will take on a life of its own, as if my imagination does not care what my mind originally wanted. Caldaria for example “my first published works” has taken several divergences all ready. For example, the introduction of Clara’s ability to cloak herself was never part of the story originally but since it has been introduced the device has taken the story in new directions. Clara has been able to do things many of us have only ever dreamed of accomplishing. In book two of the Caldaria series “now in editing the stage- to be released soon” things really start heating up. The story has diverged several times from the over arch and completely changed the end result at least twice.
I chose to release Caldaria in a novella format as to allow those readers who would like to follow the story as it is written verses as a stand alone novel. When this project is completed it should consist of six novellas following Clara and her comrades as they struggle against overwhelming odds. The main character in this Sci-Fi adventure with a strong Steampunk backdrop has a blatant disregard for the other occupants of the city of Caldaria, creating a general feel that she is disenfranchised from what is needed for a disaster to be adverted.
Caldaria itself presents its own challenges for our would be unrealized hero. Set in a post apocalyptic landscape brought on by solar events that crippled all electronic devices and electrical production/transmission. In the wake of this event, over two thirds of the worlds population is lost from violence, starvation and the total breakdown of social order. We jump forward a few hundred years from this event and find survivors that have built themselves a city over Yellowstone National Park, using the thermal dynamics of the landscape as a power source to operate their steam driven technology.
What will Clara chose when the time comes? With a growing threat looming and a leader hell bent on sacrificing the citizens of the slums, who could take the word of a thief and an old tinkerer banished from his guild that Caldaria was about to be changed forever. As forces are aligned with the murdering marauders, the hope of survival is quickly diminishing for the summers of Caldaria and Clara’s intensions still undecided their fate hangs in the balance.
