Top hats off to all of you out there who provide this exciting and interesting genre with fresh new material, always fueling the imagination. You are the life blood that runs in our veins, putting our imagination into words, music and films. I can never get enough Steampunk. Whatever your draw is to this genre it never fails to open my mind to another time or another world, where men and women are dressed in Victorian attire with no shortage of steam powered gadgets and the skies ablaze with battling pirates aboard their air ships of all different design. There is no end to where the imagination can take you.
Cosplay or costume play, where people dress in there favorite Victorian styles and add a Steampunk twist, has a big part to play in Steampunk society. It is always inspiring to attend a Steampunk event and see all of the ideas and time that goes into preparing your own personal take on what any outfit can deliver to the genre. If you look closely there is a story behind every one, as if they had just stepped out of the pages of a fictional novel, off the screen of a Steampunk film, or even were created out of thin air inspired by Steampunk music.
Steampunk music really grabs me. If you love the genre and like the visual imagination that can be inspired from the vintage steampunked clothing, then the music is the soundtrack that brings all this to life. Fortunately today it’s easy to find a venue that is hosting a Steampunk event close to you. Most likely it will be attended by a group of musicians playing music that tells a tale that is not glossed over by the contemporary theme of the day but filled with story. Music has a way of taking your mind deeper down the rabbit hole. Abney Park is a great band if you’re looking for a place start.
Books with a Steampunk theme or that are set in a Steampunk world will not only pull you in but keep you up at night scouring the internet for your next fix. You won’t find too many overplayed scenarios here my friend but if you have a dark side that is in need of some titillation, the authors in this genre rarely fail to deliver that alternative theme that many fictions fail to deliver.
I have attempted to introduce just a few of the mediums here that are keeping Steampunk alive and I would like to personally invite you to join us. If you want to attend a local event, catch any of these bands playing a venue or just pick up a book from the Steampunk genre, you will not only be introducing this immersive scene into your life but your involvement will directly propitiate the entire genre forward, helping to sustain the entire community.
